This piece of equipment has been the bane of my life for
almost ten years. If I was ever addicted to anything then this would be it. I have
to get my daily fix, but sometimes that just isn’t enough and in those circumstances
I need it twice and sometimes even three times a DAY!
I wish I could stop, I wish I could give up, but it’s got a hold on me so
strong and I’m so weak.
I’m talking about weighing myself of course!
You see I would weight myself first thing in the morning and
resolve to try harder to lose weight. The following morning after weighing
myself I’d be filled with self loathing and disgust that I slipped up yet again!
So what changed?
It’s like learning to drive; if no one teaches you how to,
clutch control, accelerate, stop, reverse, parallel park or do three point
turns, then you may be able to start the engine and move but you don’t know how
to drive. It’s the same with weight loss, I knew how to start the engine and
move but that was about it.
As mentioned in an earlier blog, my eyes were finally opened
in early September 2011. Losing weight is fairly simple if you know what causes
weight gain in the first place.
No, it’s not eating too much and doing too little.
Weight gain is caused by foods that increase insulin level
in the bloodstream e.g. bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and sugars (Carbs). As far
as I can tell (and I’m no expert), insulin regulates blood sugars and this in
turn elevates insulin levels. Insulin’s job is to get rid of that excess blood
sugar ASAP, so your body burns some as energy and the rest gets stored as fat. So
the simple solution is to lower insulin levels by cutting out Carbs from my
diet and simply allow my body to burn the vast quantity of stored fat as fuel. (I’m
finally learning to drive)!
The results have been fantastic, in just over three months I’ve
lost 28 pounds and I feel fantastic! But as I type this, I’m only half way to
my goal weight, but knowing what I know now I’m sure that’ll be achieved by
this summer at the very latest.
